Peter Beard usually has to go to Africa to photograph elephants. We wanted to make it easier for him. Pier 59 has studios big enough to easily accomodate his needs. But transporting an elephant through downtown Manhattan is still more trouble than it's worth. That's where digital retouching comes in.
