PHOTO ILLUSTRATION FOR NEWSWEEK

Newsweek ran this full-page image to kick off an article on the AOL / Time Warner merger in their year-end double issue with George W. Bush's flabby face on the cover. It was a bad week for the human race; the dog-eat-dog worldview of the Republicans and big business seemed to be winning out. Maybe Hans and I were feeling the bleakness out there and it showed up in our work. We certainly didn't have much time to think about what we were doing. Newsweek demands quick turnarounds. Hans shot the photographs on Thursday, I did all the digital work on Friday and by Monday it was on the newsstands.
