Zen Buddhism once held quite an appeal for me, but I could never reconcile it with the desire to create. All desire leads to suffering, according to those Zen masters--at least that's what I gleaned from my reading. Well, okay, fine... but if my desire to create images goes away, how willl I pay my bills? Here in Manhattan, Zen doesn't seem to have much relevance for me. My attitude now is: what would I rather see, Paris or a well raked sand garden? I don't know about you, but I'll take Paris every time.
